This was the area of the city where Jews were compelled to live by the Government of the Venetian Republic.

Since many centuries a big community of Jewish People are living here. Their first location was on the island called Giudecca, from the name "Giudei", that means Hebrew. 500 years ago, the Doge of Venice decided to give to this important Community a nice place, called Ghetto. The are wonderful Sinagogas and some restaurants serving Kosher food. It's located close to the train station area, in Cannaregio district. The calm and the atmosphere are unique as well as the history of these things Persons.

The oldest European Jewish Ghetto is 5 minutes by foot from the flat. It was built during the Republic of Venice in 1516; Jews were forced to remain in the Ghetto from sunset to sunrise. Restrictions lasted until the French conquest of Venice in 1797, when racial laws have been unwritten.

The Jewish Ghetto is a real hidden treasure of Venice! Don't forget to taste some delicious Jewish confectionery at VOLPE bakery! They taste really good!
