Conveniently located next to Ashmont station, hometown chef Chris Douglass’ Tavolo Restaurant offers up something we like to call “Dorchester Italian”. A casual, neighborhood spot to drop in, have a drink and enjoy a great bite of food. Centering the space is a large family-style tavolo (or table) that embodies our casual, down home approach to food and fare. The menu features a range of both large and small plates that include classic Italian specialties, artisan pizzas and chef inspired hand-made creations. The bar has become a “Dot” go-to favorite, serving up a diverse program of fresh cocktails, craft beers and worldly wines. And there’s always something new going on – Pasta Tour, Wine Pop Ups & More!
It's a cute little Italian restaurant close by! However, there are a ton of more options in the North End (Boston's Italian Section). Bring cash if you go to the North End since a lot of areas are cash only.
Owned by the same family that runs the highly recommended Ashmont Grill, Tavolo is a well regarded full service Italian restaurant with a fantastic bar scene. Great staff, good food, and wonderful atmosphere. Open for dinner Tuesday-Thursday 5pm-10pm and Friday and Saturday from 5pm-11pm. Closed…
“Lively and very friendly locally owned restaurant bar. Congenial staff will make you feel at home the first time you come in and remember you on your second. Innovative fare and excellent cocktails. An all around fun atmosphere just a 15-20 minute walk away. Highly recommend. Dinner served Monday-Thursday from 5pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday from 5pm-11pm, and Sunday from 4pm-10pm. Saturday and Sunday Brunch from 11am-3pm. Lunch served Friday only from 11am-3pm. If you want to experience true local Boston flavor, this is the place to be. ”
“Great local Irish pub and restaurant with above average food and extensive beer list. Open daily from 11am-1am. Lunch served daily 11am-4pm. Dinner from 4pm-10pm Sunday to Thursday and until 11pm Friday and Saturday. Sunday Brunch from 11am-3pm. ”
“Excellent coffee shop, cafe, and bakery. Delicious scratch baked goods, incredible breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and beer and wine. Cozy, comfortable and friendly with free wifi and a book borrow station. Open Monday-Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm. About a mile away (20 minute walk) away. Highly recommend”
“Hands down, one of the best Italian restaurants you will experience. Don't come for fine dining, but do come for some incredible Italian comfort food made with love by the dedicated owners, Jeff and Ida. In Jeff's words, they have neither a freezer or microwave and commit to making the freshest most flavorful food they can. Always spring for the $2 upcharge to get the fresh pasta. A bit lacking on atmosphere and feels a bit like an elevated pizza and sub shop, but does offer table service, beer and wine. Expect long waits on weekends, but don't let that dissuade you. Put your name on the wait list and get a drink nearby and they'll text you when the table is ready. ”
