Hokitika Gorge is very beautiful and deserves a visit. It’s a half hour drive and once you get there, allow another half hour for the walk and taking photos. If you are also visiting Lake Kaniere, you can take the back road around the Lake which joins up to the road to the Gorge.
Has beautiful blue/green waters that flow out of the Hokitika Gorge, 30min drive in and out from Hokitika, the walk is easy 15min to swing bridge though our dense podocarp forest to take photos, large carpark with toilets.
Be sure to check out our famous Hokitika Gorge. On a clear day, with no rain, the waters glisten ice blue.
“Beautiful lake for swimming, lots of walks from 20minutes to a full day and lots of beautiful West Coast Forest to immerse yourself in. No shops so take a picnic or some snacks (:”
“Fat Pipi Pizza offer a great range of exquisite pizzas. The whitebait pizza is a hidden secret. You won't be disappointed.”
“Such a beautiful lake, surrounded by forest and mountains with wonderful clean water, great for swim or a picnic and multiple opportunities for walks from different access points around the lake. At the main visitor entrance on the road south from Hokitika, opposite the Mahinapua pub there is an awesome swimming spot off the jetty. The water is dark, but don't let that put you off, it is so clean and refreshing (: ”
“NW supermarket for all your food supplies, its in the heart of Hokitika town”
“The heart of downtown Hokitika, this community run theatre runs movies, events, shows, town meetings and music gigs. We love watching movies in the large auditorium or seeing an arty movie in the small Reynolds Room theatre. All the latest movies and multiple screenings a day.”
