Enjoy a day trip in Liège (easily reachable by train - be aware that SNCB train tickets are 1/2 price during bank holidays and week-ends) famous for it's waffles

How to get to the city centre from our studio: It takes about 20-25 minutes to reach the historical city centre on foot from the studio. You can obviously also use public transport. There are regular trains from Liege Guillemins that will bring you to a little train station into the historical city centre. The name of the station in the city centre is Liège Saint Lambert and you can find the timetable on www.nmbs.be . During a part of spring, summer and autumn, there is also a boat that you will bring you from the pedestrian bridge “Belle Liegeoise” into the city centre (for timetable: navettefluviale.be, our stop is Guillemins) . There are also regular buses ( lines 1, 4, 48 and 25)that leave from the train station to the city centre. They are often very packed and not comfortable, so we try to avoid them if possible but you can use them if you are in a hurry. The city is investing in building a tramway that will make public transport in Liege more efficient. What to do and where to eat in the historical city centre? The most recent guides on Liège, that you will find in your room, give you quite a nice picture of what there is to do and where to eat in Liège. You will see that the city centre of Liège is pretty well preserved but there are also more modern interventions which do not always fit well. So it takes a bit of time to discover the charm of the city, but you once you get the hang of it, you will see that the city has a lot to offer. Quite some renovation works are still ongoing and as the city is building a tramway, you will stumble across a lot of roadworks for the moment. Below you will find some of our highlights which you should not miss - Brasserie C (Impasse des Ursulines 14): this is by far the most beautiful terrace in Liège in an incredible historical and charming setting. This the perfect spot to enjoy a drink before or after you have climbed the Montagne de Bueren - Une Gaufrette Saperlipopette (rue des mineurs): This is the best place to eat the famous Liege Waffle but all other deserts are equally amazing. Everything is made bio in the traditional way. Mostly there is a big queue but this is worth the wait. There is now also a glacerie attached. - If you are a fan of exploring nature in the city, it is worth walking the “coteaux de la citadelle”. There are different access points but if you have the time to do the full tour, go up the rue pierreuse and enter via de Ferme de la vache. You can walk around the hill and this will ultimately bring you to Saint Leonard, on the other side of the city. - Don’t miss out on the “Impasses”, little medieval alleys, that will make you dream on how charming Liege is. - If you want to escape in the city centre all the noise, you can either have a drink in the court yard of the Musee de la vie wallonne or take a break in court yard of the Cathedral Saint Paul. - Even if Cathedral Saint Paul is the most well known church in Liège, don’t miss out on Eglise Saint Jacques, which is absolutely stunning from the inside. - Don’t miss out on the streets En Neuvice and Rue Souveraint Pont. They are full of great little shops, nice restaurants and cafes. - If you like art, like we do, don’t miss out on these places SPACE Collection Espace 251 Nord Galerie Nadja Vilenne Les Brasseurs Galerie Les Drapiers Kultura - If you are in Liège on Fridays, do not miss out on the flea market in Outremeuse (Boulevard de la constitution). If you are in Liège on Sundays, don’t miss out on one of the biggest food and clothing markets of Europe: La Batte (along the river). - Best Burger in Town: Huggy’s Bar (Passage Lemonnier 22 and boulevard D’avory 122) and le barbecue de Jacky (Rue des Dominicains 10). Best Veggie Burger in town: Greenburger (Rue du Pont 13) - Best cocktail: Volga Bar D’atmosphère (Quai de la Goffe) and Café Brasil (Rue Roture 74) - Best place for coffee: Grand Maison(Quai de la Goffe 37), La Caféière (Rue Puits-En-Sock 118), La petite épicerie (Rue Bonne Fortune 9), En Ville (Rue Soeurs-de-Hasque 7) - Best French Food: Le paris Brest (rue du pont 16).
