Just a 16 minute drive and your back to the gold rush days and nature. Some of our favorite easy walking and hiking trails are lovely any time of year but spectacular in the spring and early summer. Baby strollers and horses can go on most of the trails. Bring a picnic or snacks and water bottles as there are no concessions. The nature center is small but filled with interactive exhibits of indigenous wildlife along with a few live animals in rehabilitation. We enjoy seeing hawks and vultures up close. The docents present at least one live animal on Saturdays, a delight for adults and kids, up close, lively and informative. Sometimes you get to hold or pet the animals. There is no charge for entrance, parking or shows. There is a gift shop.

There are 3 different trails you can hike through. They also have a nature center with and live animal shows sometimes on the weekends.

Only a few miles from the cottage, Placerita Canyon has miles of hiking trails and a neat little museum. During spring, the waterfall trail leads to a beautiful grotto with running waterfall deep in the canyon.
