The church was built between 1220 and 1230, and is thus, along with the Church of Our Lady at Alexanderplatz not far away, the oldest church in Berlin.

Today its official name is Museum Nikolaikirche but the two impressive recognizable spires of Berlin’s oldest church and stone building reveal a distinctive medieval past. Completed in 1230.

The Gothic brick hall church from the 15th century is the symbol of the old town of Spandau. Elector Joachim II once adopted the Protestant faith here and ushered in the Reformation in the Brandenburg region. In addition to church services, organ prayer and concerts take place in the St. Nikolai Church. Another offer is the “evening music by candlelight” on the Reformation square. The Spandovia Sacra on Reformation Square houses a museum on the history of the church, the old church library and a café. If you want, you can climb the church tower on weekends in season and enjoy the view of the old town. The imposing tower of the St. Nikolai church on Reformationsplatz with its 75.5 meters protrudes from the roofs of Spandau. Like the Nikolaikirche in Berlin-Mitte, the church is one of the few surviving medieval church buildings from the early days of the city of Berlin. Unlike many other churches, the church is open to visitors almost every day. There is also a separate area for small children so that the family can go on a tour of the church undisturbed.
