James Monroe's Highland
The home of President James Monroe. Adjacent to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Highland offers daily tours and hosts community and private events.
Restored home of the 5th president of the U. S., author of the “Monroe Doctrine”, and close friend of Thomas Jefferson. James Monroe's 550-acre estate recreates the atmosphere of a working farm. Stroll through the ancient boxwood gardens, tour the charming frame and brick house, and observe spinning…
Right next to Monticello is James Monroe’s home. It is more low key but a really nice way to spend your time at another Presidents’ home.
Thomas Jefferson wasn’t the only President to live in Charlottesville. Be sure to visit James Monroe’s Ashlawn/Highland as well. Just a few minutes beyond Monticello, it’s worth the trip.
Our Airbnb is literally across the road from Highland. It's a historic place with a museum and walking trails.
Formerly known as Ashlawn, the lovely home of our 5th U.S. president is the historic and current neighbor of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.
