African Bead Museum and MBAD outdoor gallery. Dabls creates and curates amazing mosaics, sculptures and installations reflecting cultural experience of Africans and African-Americans.
Check out his fascinating installations outside, and head in to see his incredible collection of African beads - some ancient.
Creatively used space and concept. The use of the outside and inside are incredible. Artifacts and great workshops.
Another free, uniquely Detroit outdoor art museum (donation suggested) with a teeny tiny bead museum inside. There is also an African boutique within Greektown where I love to treat myself to clothes and jewelry.
Outdoor sculpture art made from recycled materials. And an African bead shop in premise
This authentic bead gallery and outdoor museum are so unique to Detroit. Walk around the artwork and check out the African Bead Store. The owner Dabls is very friendly.
“BEST sliders / burgers around. This place has been in business forever, must visit ”
Performing arts venue
“There’s improv on Mondays and Saturdays at this rowhouse converted to a black-box theater, and scripted shows, too. It’s small and intimate and on improv nights the audience can jump in and play after the regular performance. Keegan-Michael Key of Key and Peele, a Detroit native, is on the board and got his start there. They let you bring in your own booze and it can get crowded, so it’s a good idea to go early. They also have classes, including a free beginner’s workshop to get your feet wet with games and exercises.”
