It is an historic and ancient abbey surrounded by a forest at 1000 m high. So refreshing!
It's only 15 km. from here and you can visit the XI century monumental abbey with its centenarian botanic garden. And don't forget to drop in at the "Chalet" of the Consuma Pass to taste its famous "schiacciata coi funghi", a kind of pizza with mushrooms.
Amazing Abbey on top of the mountain, surrounded by a natural area with lot of amazing paths and centenary trees (one of Europe's tallest treesì is there)
“Pizza, carne e pesce tutto molto buono. Tavoli anche all'aperto nella meravigliosa piazza della Pieve di Cascia”
Point of Interest
“The forest of San Antonio does not have a well-defined history to which I can refer exclusively. A first portion of land among those who today are part of it, along with the land of the Vallombrosa forest were donated, around 1000, from noble families, including the Guidi, the Adimari and the monastery of S. Ilario Fiano (S.Ellero, Reggello), to the monks of Vallombrosa. These, with John Gualberto, founded in Vallombrosa in 1039 the monastic order of Benedictine monks. Therefore cultural and historical events of this forest have followed those of the larger whole to which he belonged: the Vallombrosa forest, run by monks. These lands total were composed of "turkey oaks and other trees"”
“ Perfect place for "aperitivo" and local food deli. Very special view on the hills (especially at sunset).”
“Excellent bar and delicatessen. And also a restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. Loved by locals. Big outdoor eating area for the summer.”
