“This is the first of three lighthouses that you can see in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Built in 1872, this lighthouse is close enough to visit if you are short on time. Bodie Island, (pronounced Body), is just before the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and no longer an island. The current structure, which was completed in 1872, is one of only a handful of brick tower lighthouses that remain in operation in the United States. Just one of the attractions on the way to Cape Hatteras, Bodie Island is a spectacular lighthouse that is definitely worth the time to stop and enjoy.”
