There is a walking track to The Gap on the southern end of the beach that goes around the headland. There is another track that goes from the north end over to O'Neills beach. There is a shop that sells coffee and food and there is an art gallery

Piha is a seaside village, west of Auckland, on New Zealand’s North Island. Black-sand Piha Beach is known for its strong surf and rugged scenery. Lion Rock is a volcanic monolith with war memorials and Maori carvings. Nearby, Waitakere Ranges Regional Park has subtropical native rainforest and trails to waterfalls such as Kitekite and Fairy falls. Karekare, to the south, also has a black sand beach.

45 minutes away on the State Highway 20 is the dramatic wild black-sand beaches of Piha and Karekare. This is a beautiful drive through the Waikatare ranges viewing sub-tropical scenery. We often drive to Titirangi for its village atmosphere and shop for handcrafts and souvenirs. A beautiful day-trip.
