Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, with access by the North Zone, South and West, the Tijuca National Park (Parna Tijuca or NTPs) protects the largest urban forest in the world replanted by man, with an extension of 3.953ha Atlantic Forest. It is Brazil's most visited National Park, receiving more than three million visitors a year, between Brazilians and foreigners of all ages. It is undoubtedly a key to make Rio the Wonderful City. Divided into four sectors - Forest, the Carioca, Bonita Stone / Pedra da Gavea and Black Liners / Covanca, the NWP has program options for all audiences: from picnic areas and barbecues to gliding, rock climbing, hiking and other activities . Among the famous postcards of the country, are the Corcovado Mountain, where is located the statue of Christ the Redeemer, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, the Chinese view, the Pedra da Gávea, Lage Park and Painswick. Numerous environmental services offered by the Park are key to the city, such as maintenance of water sources; erosion control; mitigation of floods; attenuation of temperature variations; Local climate regulation; reduction of air and noise pollution and aesthetic maintenance of the local natural environment. This is the largest urban forest in Latin America -- unmissable. If you are by car follow a map and go through Horto (the neighbourhood) or book a tour (there are many available). Lots of waterfalls ideal for a refreshing shower after the beach if you manage to go up there.
