There are so many great Chinese options in Melbourne but Hu Tong makes my favourite Wontons with hot Chilli sauce and my all time favourite claypot eggplant. I keep meaning to try more on the menu but then I remember the last time and order the same thing again as both are seriously good. Located at 14-16 Market Lane it's a couple of ks a way so further than many other dumpling options but worth a quick tram ride up Collins Street (get off at Stop 7) and then a short walk. You might enjoy waddling home afterwards as there's a lot of downhill going back towards the apt. You can walk off some of those extra dumplings you squeezed in! www.hutong.com.au

Famous for perhaps the most delicious dumplings outside China, HuTong may be spread across three levels, but book ahead because demand is high and the food is so good you'll want to linger. Scalding xiao long bao meat and soup dumplings are the specialty but there are dishes in Shanghai and Szechuan styles too.
