Beautiful nature preserve with trails great for hikes of varying lengths, picnic spots, and nice views of a lake. Lots of wildlife--we've seen deer and turtles here. Very close drive to the Airbnb.

8305 Camp Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614 - this is a 237 acre nature preserve only 7 minutes away, with multiple trails around the lake, well kept and not too strenuous. They have “discovery backpacks” that can be checked out free from the park office (M-Th 8am-1pm), for kids to learn more about ponds, insects, birds, animal tracking, or nature art.
