Ceglie Messapica is one of the oldest towns in Puglia and the fortified Castello was built in the middle ages on the site original Hellanistic (greek) acropolis and main Roman temples. The oldest remaining part is a Norman tower form the 11th century, 3 round medieval (Angevin) towers from the 12th & 13th centuries and the large dominant square 34m high 15th Century tower built by the Sanseverino family, that probably made the biggest historical mark on Ceglie. The castello has gradually started to be purchased by the state (Commune) and renovated. two wings (but not the medieval tower) can be visited, Tourist Info Office can give info re visits (Via Elia Pietro, very near the Castello).

Il Castello Ducale di Ceglie Messapica è una struttura difensiva medioevale della città antica, il nucleo centrale di epoca normanna nel corso dei secoli è stato più volte rimaneggiato ed ampliato. Domina insieme alla Collegiata il borgo medioevale essendo posto nel punto più alto del colle.
