I used to play as a kid around the ruins, enjoying the climbing and the vibes... Not very conscious of the impact on the ruins. Today the area is enclosed, well preserved and you can really feel how was it living in this pre colonial town.
This is the archaeological site where the first Panama settlement was established. There is a museum and souvenirs shop.
“Located in the main square at Casco Antiguo, this is the biggest and best museum about the Panama Canal. Highly recommended.”
“Casco Viejo (San Felipe) is the heart of the Old City and a world UNESCO site. It's streets are lined with wonderfully restored Spanish architecture and historic structures.”
“I'm not a mall shopper, but Panama City is known for it's access to every major international brand because of the Panama Canal. This one is a good location for every day goods. Also, the stores in Panama really want to sell their wares. Deals. Deals. Deals. If you're a shopper, pace yourself and consider purchasing or bringing extra luggage. The prices will surprise you. ”
