US-4 West 49min 31.6mi from SunnySide Airbnb. The Killington Region is an all-season vacation destination. With some of the highest and most varied mountain terrain in New England, Killington is the choice for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Killington Resort is one of the largest ski areas in the world - 95 miles of skiing and snowboarding terrain, many of which also support mountain biking and hiking when the snows have melted. The famous Appalachian and Long Trails transverse these mountains, as do miles of VAST trails, the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers snowmobile and cross country ski statewide trail system. For less rugged adventure, this spectacular mountain setting is home to two PGA golf courses, with 12 area courses just a short drive away. The Killington Region is known as the heart of Vermont for more than one reason. Ideally located in the center of the state, it is the perfect base for all of your Vermont adventures. While our region offers a multitude of recreation, lodging and dining choices, most all destinations of interest, both North and South, are just a scenic ride away. We can help you plan day trips to some of Vermont's scenic, historic and recreation points of interest.

Climbing Mount Tom in Woodstock, Vermont 20 min (10.3 miles) Dog friendly Mount Tom dominates the center of Woodstock. It's 1,250'. If you are fit, it will take you about 30 minutes to reach the top. It is well worth the trip. There are two ways up, an easy way from behind the mountain, and faster one from the center of town. The easy and longer way is to drive out of Woodstock on Route 4 and turn right just after the Woodstock Farmer's Market. Follow the road up and over a hill and you will come to a parking lot on your right. The fastest way is to set out from the park on Mountain Avenue, behind the covered bridge. The ascent will take about 30 minutes depending on your level of fitness. The climb is easy and well worn. Near the summit, the going gets a little tricky but there is a guide wire to hold on to as you negotiate your way over some rocks. Wear a good pair of boots.

Quechee Gorge Dewey Pond Trail: 4 min (1.6 miles) Experience this 1.40 mile, out and back trail near Hartford, Vermont. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 40 min to complete. This is a very popular area for fishing, hiking, and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round, but the best times to visit are April through November. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. This is a flat and scenic out-and-back walk that starts in the parking lot of Dewey’s Mills Pond and begins on a strip of land between the pond and the Ottauquechee River, ending at the Ottauquechee Dam and Waterfalls. If you choose to keep walking straight ahead beyond the dam toward the Quechee Gorge Bridge, the trail begins to climb and becomes a little more rugged. The trail starts behind a gate just past the boat launch at the Dewey’s Mills Pond parking lot. Restrooms are available at the picnic area just beyond the dam, as are benches to rest on. Both the pond and the Ottauquechee River are full of life, so enjoy the wonderful walk!
