Since our first visit to Franschhoek in 1995 a trip to La Motte has always been a favourite - a short drive from Nooks its easy to spend the day. La Motte offers a world of diversity a stunning wine estate steeped in history. Good wines, La Motte Shiraz and Millennium have long been favourites of ours, a beautiful art galley, amazing restaurant and a fantastic hiking trail that provides magical views of this wonderful valley from a very different angle, complete a another great day out - just 5 mins from the front door.

La Motte offers a world of diversity a stunning wine estate steeped in history. Good wines, La Motte Shiraz and Millennium have long been favourites of ours, a beautiful art galley, amazing restaurant and a fantastic hiking trail that provides magical views of this wonderful valley from a very different angle, complete a another great day out - just 5 mins from the front door.
One of our favourite restaurants in Franschhoek - always something creative on the menu foraged from gardens, the hill side and secret locations around the valley giving a real local flavour to chef Chris Erasmus dish's. Use of the BBQ / smoker outside the front of the restaurant make for really interesting meat and vegetable dishes. Wine list is small and hand picked with some interesting local wines - many of which are organic or biodynamic.

The vison of the owners has resulted in a very special place and experience... a must visit place we love to share with all our friends - if you are visiting in spring you must take in the Clivia walk truly spectacular collection of this wonderful uniquely African plant.

This is perhaps for us the pick of the restaurants on the high st. The restaurant is small and intermate the food is outstanding in its execution and presentation the service is slick from the well trained staff. Always a memorable evening if you are looking for something special - booking essential .

Great spot for coffee, breakfast and lunch - coffee beans freshly roasted on-site fill the café with a wonderful aroma. The coffee is perhaps the best in Franschhoek given we live in Melbourne the self proclaimed coffee capital of the world - as Al Pacino said " I know a bit about coffee !!!" . Beautiful location and gardens - good food, excellent service look out for Macy Gray and then there is the dog and he is big ... all just a short walk or drive along the main road from Nooks

As you would expect of a university city it has a lively vibrate feel especially on a summers evening with the street cafes, bars and restaurants. There are many great restaurants , galleries and historic buildings to visit including the university botanic gardens which have a fabulous restaurant set under spreading oaks - very secluded and relaxing great for a casual lunch or afternoon tea. Further afield Stellenbosch is blessed with many wonderful winery's.

Paarl is blessed with wonderful wineries and restaurants but successfully retains the feel of a working town and gate way to other areas of the region like Wellington and Ceres with some spectacular drives over the Bainskloof Pass.

This is a great historic wine estate and its all about the wine no restaurant or other attractions. The tasting room is located in the historic homestead and is prefect on a winters day with its log fire lit. Staff are very well trained and knowable - best of all its on the wine tram route so taste as much as you want and do not consider the hassle of driving.

If your are looking for a hidden gem and a real boutique winery take the trip up Uitkyk Street to the very top of the road and then head up a rustic private driveway to the bottom of the mountains. You are in for a real treat the views are spectacular and the wine is well worth the trip.
