John's Pass Village This quaint fishing village at the south end of Madeira Beach features a 1,100-foot long boardwalk, 100 retailers – with unique shopping, cruise lines, a variety of restaurants, boat rentals, jet skiing, and parasailing – and the local fishing fleet. This site is home to the legend of Pirate John LeVeque, who is believed to have buried his treasure on Madeira Beach in the 18th Century. Upon returning for his treasure after a hurricane, LeVeque found that the beach had been washed away and a Pass was created between what is now Madeira Beach and Treasure Island. LeVeque stayed in the area, fishing and swimming the waters and searching for his treasure. John’s Pass is named for LeVeque in honor of his discovery of the area and for the treasure he never found again

Its walkable Main Street is a tangle of unique restaurants and watering holes (some dog friendly like Skip’s Bar & Grill), interspersed with boutiques hawking jewelry, arts and crafts, plus tropical home décor that tells the world you’ve been to Florida. Yes, that’s means palm trees and flamingos. Park the car and spend the day, no reservations necessary. Dunedin isn’t necessarily one of those places on a traveler’s bucket list, situated as it is in the middle of heavily populated Pinellas County and 25 miles from Tampa. It’s on the Intracoastal Waterway, and boasts fabulous sunsets and an abundance of craft beer, with perhaps more breweries per capita that any other city in the state. It also offers a beach on fabulous, pristine Caledesi Island, accessible only by ferry or boat. The explosion of artisan beer in Florida has rolled into Dunedin big time. Dunedin Brewery lays claim to being the oldest microbrewery in Florida and Caledonia Brewing on Main is among the newest. In between there is 7venth Sun Brewery, Woodwright Brewing Company, Cueni Brewing Company and Soggy Bottom Brewing.

1136 acres Lay of the Land: Year round residents include pelicans, herons, egrets and plovers. Sea turtles nest along the beach in summer and you'll often see dolphins from the Gulf fishing pier. Soft sand, emerald waters and shady pines await you at Fort De Soto park, which is made up of five separate islands. Ride, skate or jog on the 7-mile paved trail, or canoe and kayak through lush mangroves. Rover can roam at the Paw Playground and frolic in the surf at Dog Beach, while the kids explore the canons and jail cells of the old fort. An 800 foot long boat launch facility provides easy access to this park's waterfront and beaches. The facility also includes eleven floating docks. Other amenities: showers, lifeguards, camping and fishing. Little Known Facts: Built for the Spanish-American War, the fort was finished after the war ended and never fired a hostile shot. Fans of the old television series "Prison Break" might recognize the park, since it acted as a stand in for the country of Panama for several episodes. Fort De Soto is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Why You Should Go: Fort De Soto has consistently received top rankings over time. In June 2011, it was named America's best family beach by the editors of Parents. The magazine praised the natural sandbar off the coast which acts as a lagoon-like pool for younger swimmers. The expansive Fort De Soto park also took top honors by TripAdvisor and was named America's Best Beach by Dr. Beach. Other benefits: you can camp directly on the water, fish from two free piers 24 hours a day, splash in calm waters, rent bikes and kayaks---you name it. Just go! ** When it comes to camping at Fort De Soto, Hitch Top Tents provide an all-inclusive, off-the-ground camping experience unlike any other. **

A natural barrier island, this state park boasts four miles of sandy beaches, nature trails, and abundant wildlife. Don't be surprised to see an endangered gopher tortoise walking across your path or hear the call of an osprey---or the bark of Fido, who may explore the dog beach. The Pinellas Trail has a spur that runs the length of the Dunedin Causeway right to the park entrance. All pets are required to be on a six-foot handheld leash. Little Known Facts: Honeymoon Island got its name from a Life Magazine contest for newlyweds in 1939; couples won a two-week honeymoon stay on the island. Photos of these love birds can be viewed at The Rotary Club Centennial Nature Center. In 2007 Honeymoon Island was Florida's most visited state park. Why You Should Go: Beaches, nature and accessibility. In addition to being a great destination, it's also the launching point to Caladesi Island State Park America's #1 Beach for 2008. * Please note there is an admission fee. Located in Pinellas County along Florida’s central Gulf Coast, the land that’s now part of Seminole was originally settled by non-Native Americans in the 1840s. The City of Seminole was officially incorporated in 1970, and for much of its existence, was noted for the historic water tower that was a much-loved feature of its skyline. Sadly, the tower was removed by the city council a few years ago. But the good news is that Seminole’s convenient location gives visitors easy access to many of the state’s most popular historical, natural, and popular attractions – and the weather is nearly perfect for much of the year too.
