One of the best restaurants in the area. A bit pricey, but they have a nice selection of lovely dishes. Reservations are a must on the weekend. Ask for outside dining if the weather is nice--it gets a bit loud inside.

Love the historic building...the restaurant is down the steps into the cellar where you can see mines from the old gold rush days. Food is good and often there's some live music (mostly background music). This place is off the beaten path--you'll never just "stumble" across it, but it's a nice historic place to have a meal. They are open for brunch on the weekends; otherwise, dinners Wednesdays through Sundays. They can handle large groups with reservations.

They can get some pretty interesting music and events there--sometimes Tibetan monks creating a huge sand mandala, yoga, children's story telling, bands you've never heard of... This is where gold was first "discovered" in California. The town is preserved and people dressed in 1800s attire. Try your hand at panning for gold, take a walk along the river and see the old mill. Interesting shops and activities. Good for kids and adults.
