A bit of a walk, but certainly worth it. This church was founded as NY's first African-American Baptist Church in 1808.

The first African-American Baptist Church in New York state, Abyssinian began in downtown Manhattan in 1808. Their home in Harlem was opened in 1923, under the ministry of Dr. Adam Clayton Powell, Sr. (Please note: Due to its popularity with tourists, particularly its Gospel Worship Services, they have established a strictly enforced Tourist Policy (PDF) that allows tourists only to the 11:30 a.m. service (not the 9 a.m. service) on Sunday on a first come, first-served basis.) Do not take big bags. Only attend the 11:30 service. Arrive early to wait in the long lines. No tourism during the month of August.

Harlem's most famous Southern Baptist congregation. Where presidents come to speak when they come to Harlem.
