Reviews from visitors: *It's a beautiful place. The history is amazing, and the grounds of the citadel are just stunning. *Nice Baltic castle, with good panorama, in the centre of a beautiful park. *Very nice citadel with a lot of history. Take a guided tour and end it with a super good sandwich in the deli at the moat. *The park, the castle and surrounding area was wonderful! There is a cozy beach and a little cafe there too. The courtyard of the castle itself was a little boring. But it is still worth to go there and walk around and look. The castle was built in the 1500s and has been in both the Swedish and Danish ownership. *A very interesting place, but only to drop in.

Citadellet är en av Nordens bäst bevarade fästningar från 1500-talet och Sveriges enda bevarade jordvallsfästning. Slottet byggdes 1549 - 59 av danske kungen Kristian III. 1827 fungerade Citadellet som fängelse för livstidsdömda och 1902 som en tvångsarbetaranstalt för kvinnor. På området finns ett café och möjlighet att fiska i vallgraven. Det kostar ingenting att besöka området runt Citadellet men om man vill besöka själva slottet får man följa med på en guidad tur som kostar 75 kr för vuxna och 40 kr för barn (7-15 år).
