Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary
Non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wildlife. Also provides sanctuary for those unable to be released. There is a very nice restaurant that is open to the public and a full bar with a daily happy hour.
One of our favorite spots. They offer a great tour, and do amazing things in the area with the rehabilitation of wildlife. A must visit!

“This is a solid pick for lunch or dinner near Ojochal. International menu is prepared with the freshest ingredients. There's a variety of beef, chicken, fish and veggie options, as well as ceviches, pastas, sushi, and more. The owner's family grows much of the produce they use, organically and with a lot of love. Good value! ”

“Head south on the highway, 5 minutes south of Ojochal you will turn left before a bridge. You will see signs for a Tilapia restaurant. Follow the dirt road (4x4 needed) for about 12 minutes, you will see an entrance across from Restaurante Tilapia El Pavon. It's just a short walk to a beautiful waterfall, featuring an iconic egg shaped rock in the waterfall. ”

“Leave the tourist map behind and encounter the real Costa Rica as we drive over lush mountain ranges, head deep into the misty jungle, and pass gorgeous ocean views. Many miles of our pristine trails are accessible only by ATV, meaning you’ll experience insanely dynamic terrain… trails few others have had the opportunity to explore.”
“Explore the caves at low tide, or "ventanas" (means windows in Spanish), and bring a boogie board! You can drive in a park right at the beach front. Parking is cheap during the day, and the beach usually offers lifeguards and local vendors.”
