The Gifford farm lies in the heart of the Fruita valley. The original home was built in 1908 by polygamist Calvin Pendleton. Dewey Gifford later purchased the home in 1928 where he and his family resided for 41 years. The former kitchen has been converted into a Natural History Association sales outlet. Items for sale include reproduction utensils and household tools used by the Mormon pioneers. A wide selection of books, historic postcards, jams, jellies, as well as locally baked fruit pies are also available.

The Gifford House, on the scenic drive approx. 1/2 mile past the Capitol Reef visitor center, is a nice stop within your Capitol Reef visit. Located just east of the Fremont River trail, you can get a snack, some locally made foods or other gifts, and learn about the early pioneers who lived in this area. Outdoor picnic tables with amazing views.
