Fort Ross is a Russian colony founded in 1812. The park has a beach, historic buildings, and a visitor center to learn more about the settlement.

One of the main tourist attractions between Bodega Bay and Fort Bragg, Fort Ross is a historic Russian-era fort compound. Located eleven miles north of Jenner on California Highway One, one of the most scenic coastal routes in the world, Fort Ross is surrounded by sandy beaches, panoramic coves, and redwood forests, with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

Great place to plan a day trip. The fort has been rebuilt and you can explore the buildings and see what life was like for these settlers. I recommend packing a picnic and enjoying it on the beach!

Visit Russia's extraordinary colony in early California, established to support the Russian settlements in Alaska. See what was successful, and find out why it was eventually abandoned.
