This is a moderate hike to a lake with an AMC hut. You can continue on from here to summit Cannon, or turn around. The AMC hut offers bathrooms, water, and snacks for purchase. Lots of kids on the trail. Park at the campground or in parking lot near trailhead. Can be crowded.

Lonesome Lake Trail can be accessed through the south parking lot of Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia Notch State Park (Lafayette Place exit off I93N from Lincoln) Lafayette Place (1,760 ft.) to Hi-Cannon Trail (1,925 ft.) —> 0.4 mile, 20 minutes Lafayette Place (1,760 ft.) to AMC Lonesome Lake Hut (2,760 ft.) –> 1.6 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes Round trip —> 3.2 miles, 3 hours Around-Lonesome-Lake Trail (2740 ft) —> 0.8 mile, 25 minutes Lonesome Lake Loop Suggested Gear: a map, sturdy footwear, water, snacks, a swimsuit, and most importantly: your sense of adventure. Cascade Brook Trail (2,740 ft.) to Basin-Cascades Trail (2,084 ft.) —> 1.3 miles, 50 minutes Basin-Cascades (1,520 ft.) to Pemi Trail (1,770 ft.) —> 1 mile, 45 minutes Pemi Trail (1,770 ft.) to Lafayette Place (1,770 ft..) —> 2 miles, 55 minutes

Tough hike but worth the work. Pack a picnic lunch to refuel your return or continuation of the trail. You won’t regret this one…but start early and be prepared. Waterfalls and great scenery along the way.

Accessed by a few trails (such as the Basin Cascade Trail), this would be the highlight of any trip to the region. This would only be truly appreciated in the spring, summer, and fall as I am not sure if you would be able to get to this spot safely in the winter.
