The International Slavery Museum is located within Liverpool's Albert Dock, inside the Maritime Museum building. The museum is the only one of it's kind and looks at the aspects of historical and contemporary slavery. Expect to be taken on a thought-provoking and moving explorative journey beginning at life before slavery. It looks at the people of West Africa and their rich and varied history and culture developed, long before European slaves. At the beginning of the museum, youngsters can explore the Igbo family replica and learn about traditional African Culture. The story continues to enslavement, of which features a walk-in audio visual display which capturing the horrors and conditions that were endured by slaves on slave ships across the Atlantic. This chapter of the museum is narrated by people that were stripped of their identities and treated as animals by crews. The final section of the museum spotlights the reminders of the racism and discrimination faced by the Black population even after the abolition of the slave trade. However, this is not the end of the exhibition, the museum delves into the spirit shown by people of African descent and how this influenced the societies of culture of America and Europe today. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Black Achievers Wall, the Freedom Wall and to visit the Campaign Zone which regularly displays exhibitions on how millions all over the world are still being sold as objects and forced to work for little or no pay.
