Located on Hwy 56 in Smithville, TN is the Appalachian Center for Craft which is a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University. There are four hiking trails here. You can find a trail map at the center or on their web site.
Local artisans exhibit and sell their work. Associated with a local university, they offer classes and workshops.
