The so-called intermediate wall separated the acropolis from the Ano Poli (upper town). If you walk along the wall to the northeast, you come to the Anna Paläologina Gate (1355-1356), which once led to the areas outside the wall. The intermediate wall ends in a north-easterly direction at the Alysseos Tower, also known as the Trigonion Tower. This is a round tower that was erected in the 15th century and incorporates an older rectangular tower that was part of the Byzantine fortifications. Μνημειο του 15ου αιώνα. The Castles of Thessaloniki are a complex of walls, towers and fortifications with unique archaeological, architectural and historical significance. What we call today "Castles of Thessaloniki" is only part of the old fortification. In their original form, the walls and castles of Thessaloniki surrounded the entire city, including the riverside side. The design and the technology of the walls make them very similar to the Byzantine walls of Constantinople, although of course the size varies. Once you climb up to the Acropolis/Kastra/Eptapyrgio don’t miss the tower at far end corner of Eptapyrgio street. It’s called Trigoniou Tower and is a unique spot to get some breathtaking views of the city.
