Discover the history of why this village had to be evacuated during the war. The residents didn’t know they were leaving their homes and lives forever. Walk down to Worbarrow Bay.

Winston Churchill’ government commandeered the village and nearby Warborough Bay as a training ground for the 2nd World War D Day landings. Tyneham is set in the Army firing ranges of Bovington and Lulworth and is only open on selected dated outside of the summer, so worth checking the opening times before setting out – www.tynehamopc.org.uk The restored School room and Church contain many glimpses of life in the 1900’s.

Tyneham is Dorset's famous ‘lost’ village. In Nov 1943 all residents were told to leave within 28 days as the area was needed for forces’ training. On 17 Dec 1943 the last residents left believing one day they could return. Sadly this was never to happen. Today, the village is still part of the Army Ranges but access is allowed most weekends and all public holidays
