(23 mi) Located just outside of North Pole this is another nice wide open area that is away from the city lights for optimal Northern Lights viewing. There are also several winter trails on and around the lake. Take a flashlight during winter months and enjoy nice long walks in nature.

Great place to see the Aurora in the winter with lots of dark skies and parking areas. Ice fishing also done in the area. Summer time swimming, fishing, boating and camping.

Best place close to North Pole, to get good photos of Northern Lights! There are also trails and fishing summer or winter! Just outside of North Pole, off of the Richardson Highway the road is paved up to the well maintained, gravel, river and lake turnoffs. Park has wide open areas and a large lake, away from the city lights with plenty of places to park for suburb aurora viewing. There are two parks within the recreation area, the River Park and the Lake Park, both suitable for viewing the northern lights. There are also several winter trails on and around the lake. You’ll want to bring a headlamp or a flashlight.

North Pole. All around fun! We go here for sledding when there’s snow, fishing, camping, walking trails, bike riding, Aurora viewing, canoeing, boating, run or walk on the dyke or on the other side of the dyke in the flood control area. We’ve flown RC airplanes down in there and it’s a great place to take family photos. Vast open space to get out and enjoy the beauty of The Great Land. See both the lakes and the river.
